File supply help

How to get your artwork right first time

Our sign printing process is cutting edge — literally. Following these rules keeps your job on schedule and avoids expensive reprints. If anything here is unclear, send the file over anyway and we'll check it before it goes to print.

File format artwork guideline icon

File format

Artwork needs to be supplied as a print-ready PDF. Print-ready means every step below has been followed so the file can go straight to production without amendment.

Fonts artwork guideline icon

Fonts

Convert all fonts to outlines/paths, or make sure they are fully embedded in the PDF. Obscure or app-specific fonts (Canva exports, for example) often don't embed and won't print as they appear on screen. Minimum recommended font size is 16pt.

Size and scale artwork guideline icon

Size and scale

Supply the PDF at 100% of the finished size. For banners over 5m long you can supply at 50% — just note the scale in the filename so it isn't missed.

Colour artwork guideline icon

Colour

All printing runs in CMYK. Convert RGB and spot/Pantone colours to CMYK before export for the most predictable results.

Bleed and trim artwork guideline icon

Bleed and trim

Add 3mm bleed on all four sides and do not include external crop marks — the RIP automatically deducts 3mm around the file for trimming. A 1000mm square sign should therefore be a 1006mm square page.

Quiet zone artwork guideline icon

Quiet zone

Keep all text and key graphics at least 10mm in from every edge. It looks better and protects the design from cutting tolerances.

Image resolution artwork guideline icon

Image resolution

150dpi is ideal for general detail; around 100dpi is fine on larger signs. Balance quality against file size when uploading.

Cut-to-shape artwork guideline icon

Cut-to-shape

For contour-cut signs, include a cut-path vector on the top layer set to overprint using the CutContour spot colour. Keep shapes simple and under roughly 50 nodes — fine detail may not cut cleanly or can break in transit.

White ink artwork guideline icon

White ink

Some acrylic signs need white ink as a flood behind the graphics, as spot white, or as standalone white artwork. Supply it as a separate spot-colour layer named for white ink.

Managing sign printing expectations

Large-format signs and displays are designed to be viewed at a distance — usually 1–2 metres for point of sale, and 5 metres or more for fascias and banners. Artwork does not need litho-level resolution.

Sign printing uses different inks and processes to litho, so an image will not match a litho print of the same file exactly.

Soft materials such as PVC foam can arrive with minor factory blemishes and mark easily. Minor scratching or creasing is not visible at normal viewing distances and isn't classed as a fault.

Please check the following before placing your order with Sign Luxe.

Artwork & File Quality

Supply artwork as a print-ready PDF wherever possible, with fonts embedded or converted to outlines.

Use vector logos and high-resolution photographs. Screenshots, images downloaded from social media and enlarged low-resolution files may print blurred or pixelated.

Follow the artwork template and resolution requirements for your chosen product. If supplying artwork at a reduced scale, clearly state the scale and final print dimensions.

Bleed, safe margins, cut lines and finishing requirements vary by product. Please confirm these before submitting artwork.

Screen colours may differ from printed colours. If an exact brand colour is essential, discuss colour matching with us before ordering.

Sizes, Quantities & Content Please check all measurements, quantities, materials, finishes, spelling, contact details and arrow directions. Measurements must be supplied in millimetres, clearly identifying width × height. For signs supplied in multiple panels, confirm the panel sizes, order and joining positions.

Proof Approval Where a proof is supplied, production will begin after your written approval and the agreed payment requirements are met. Approval confirms the content and layout shown. A digital proof does not guarantee that low-resolution images will print sharply or that screen colours will match the finished product.

Changes & Cancellations Request any changes immediately. Changes may not be possible once production has started. Any additional charges will be explained and agreed before further work proceeds.

Goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised are generally excluded from the statutory 14-day change-of-mind cancellation right. This does not affect your rights if goods are faulty, damaged or not as described. Any cancellation charges will comply with applicable law.

Production & Delivery Quoted lead times depend on the product, artwork readiness and proof approval. Delivery dates are estimates unless expressly agreed as guaranteed. Please tell us about any essential deadline before ordering.

Artwork Ownership & Permissions By submitting artwork, you confirm that you have permission to use its logos, photographs, wording and other content. You are responsible for obtaining any permissions required to display or install your sign.

Problems With Your Order Please inspect your delivery promptly and contact us with your order number and photographs of any damage or printing issue. Proof approval does not remove your rights where we fail to reproduce the agreed artwork correctly.

Your statutory rights are not affected.
